Blueberry Banana Vegan Protein Smoothie
With tasty and protein-packed ingredients like cacao and oats, this vegan protein smoothie is not only healthy and delicious – but it’s also high in vegan/plant-based protein. You see, cacao nibs are cacao beans which have been roasted, separated from the husk, and broken down into smaller nib-like pieces. Since cacao nibs allow cacao to be eaten in its most purest form, the nutritional benefits of cacao nibs are greater than if cacao were to be consumed in powder form.
Additionally, cacao nibs and cacao powder are both more nutritious than cocoa powder. According to Dr. Axe, cacao is a raw, more nutrient-dense, and less processed alternative to cocoa powder. Additionally, cacao is high in protein, antioxidants, iron, magnesium, and calcium. The super food is even a natural mood enhancer. That’s right – delicious cacao can also help to elevate your mood! When combined with mineral-rich oats and antioxidant-packed blueberries, the nutritional benefits of this smoothie are even greater. Oats are high in essential minerals such as selenium, manganese, carotenoids, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, and fiber.
I love making this vegan protein smoothie for breakfast, as a snack, or whenever I need a light afternoon pick-me-up. It’s both filling and delicious! Plus, it’s super easy to make. All you need to do is toss these simple ingredients into your Vitamix, Ninja, or Blendtec, and give it a blend!
Just a few notes and tips for making this vegan protein smoothie:
- Feel free to use any type of non-dairy milk.
- If you don’t have cacao nibs, cacao powder would also work.
- Feel free to use raw agave if you don’t have pure maple syrup. A teeny bit of raw stevia would also work.
